Movie Night: “Speedy” (1928)

Join Friends of Elizabeth Street Garden for Ted Wilde’s last silent film starring comedian Harold Lloyd in the eponymous leading role. Chronically unemployed Yankees fan Harold “Speedy” Swift attempts to save the last horse-drawn streetcar in New York, in a rapidly changing city where the railway is becoming king. Yankees star Babe Ruth plays one of Speedy’s hapless passengers.

Weekly Kids’ Yoga — Beginning Wednesday, June 17,  4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Kid’s Yoga has been designed especially for Elizabeth Street Garden to foster an appreciation for the Garden’s distinctive qualities. Kids will freeze in “strong statue” poses, learn about the life cycles of different Garden elements — seed to tree, caterpillar to butterfly, etc.; practice different “insect” poses;  and explore the sounds and other sensory qualities of the Garden through minimeditations, aiming to provide an opportunity for kids to connect to this beloved neighborhood space in a unique and meaningful way.

Instructor: local parent and Twisted Trunk instructor Suzanne Monto.

Open to kids of all ages and their families. FREE. Please bring your own mat.

A wheelchair bound photographer spies on his neighbors from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder.

Attend the LMDC Hearing to Save the Garden From Destruction!

Friends of Elizabeth Street Garden face a real threat that the Garden could be razed for development, but we can stop it with your help.

1. Attend LMDC Hearing — Thursday, Sept. 17, 4:30 – 7 p.m.
Wear GREEN. Arrive before 6 p.m. to make an impact!
Location: Borough of Manhattan Community College Fiterman Hall
245 Greenwich St., 13th Floor
(Barclay Street side entrance, two blocks north of World Trade Center)

2. Take three minutes to write a letter of support using online templates.

Background: Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) is considering a grant to New York City Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) for an affordable housing project at Elizabeth Street Garden. LMDC will hold a public forum Thursday to hear comments regarding potential projects to be supported with federal funds. Members of the public are invited to share their ideas and comments with LMDC at this public forum. For additional information and FAQs, visit elizabethstreetgarden.org.
