Community Gardening: Plant a Kitchen Garden

Help plant the herb and vegetable seedlings we grew earlier this year and start our special Chinese-Italian kitchen garden that celebrates the diverse culinary heritage of our neighborhood. Both children and adults are encouraged to attend. No experience necessary. Dress to dig.

Our weekly community gardening and hands-on workshops support this year’s season-long initiative Edible Garden Lab, funded in part with a Citizens Committee for New York City Neighborhood Grant.

Tap Attack! & Open Jam, presented by American Tap Dance Foundation
Jun 13 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Tap dance students of all ages, led by ATDF Artistic/Executive Director Tony Waag, will join with the pros to perform the Shim Sham Shimmy. Open tap jam sessions will enhance the afternoon festivities. Bring your shoes or try on a pair they supply.

Weekly Kids’ Yoga — Beginning Wednesday, June 17,  4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Kid’s Yoga has been designed especially for Elizabeth Street Garden to foster an appreciation for the Garden’s distinctive qualities. Kids will freeze in “strong statue” poses, learn about the life cycles of different Garden elements — seed to tree, caterpillar to butterfly, etc.; practice different “insect” poses;  and explore the sounds and other sensory qualities of the Garden through minimeditations, aiming to provide an opportunity for kids to connect to this beloved neighborhood space in a unique and meaningful way.

Instructor: local parent and Twisted Trunk instructor Suzanne Monto.

Open to kids of all ages and their families. FREE. Please bring your own mat.

Join us for an information and training session for third-graders or older looking to serve our community and care for our neighborhood garden.

Hours are flexible, and summer plans need not get in the way.

Movie Night: “Little Fugitive” (1953)

Joey (Richie Andrusco), a bratty 7-year-old kid from a tough Brooklyn neighborhood, is handed off to his older brother Lennie (Rickie Brewster) for the day. Fed up with his younger brother’s obnoxiousness, Lennie and his pals play a cruel prank on the boy, leading him to think he has accidentally killed his brother. Running away in fear, Joey escapes to Coney Island, where he spends a full day and night exploring the excitement of the midway while his panicked brother searches for him.
