“With LOVE LOCAL Treasure Hunt, we are thrilled to bring together elements of our neighborhood that make it so special — the small businesses, residents and Elizabeth Street Garden,” said Emily Hellström, Garden volunteer and event coordinator. “This event not only raises awareness for the Garden, but also invites us all to come together to build community and celebrate the unique treasure that our neighborhood truly is.”
In addition to their contribution of drawing prizes, participating businesses have pledged to give 10 percent of purchases made cooperatively with the LOVE LOCAL Treasure Hunt event to support Friends of Elizabeth Street Garden.

Winter Solstice Celebration
Dec. 21, 2014
Our community enjoyed the Garden decorated for the season and celebrated the coming of lighter days with hot refreshments by A.B. Biagi and Lovely Day and caroling by Molly Gallagher & Friends and Kim Kalesti.
Second Annual Harvest Festival
Oct. 25, 2014
More than 2,000 neighbors and friends, adults and children celebrated at Elizabeth Street Garden’s Second Annual Harvest Festival on Oct. 25. Our community enjoyed a day of fun activities for all ages, live music, and lite bites and refreshments donated by neighborhood businesses.
We thank Assemblymember Deborah J. Glick and Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer for attending and supporting our Harvest Festival.
Children (and adults!) wore Halloween costumes, decorated pumpkins and painted faces; gardeners planted daffodil bulbs donated by New Yorkers for Parks with tools provided by GrowNYC; jack-o’-lanterns were judged funniest, scariest and craziest; delicious local meals and attentive personal services were raffled off; attendees shared online at the Photo Gazebo; and several wheelbarrows full of canned vegetables collected to benefit the The Bowery Mission’s Thanksgiving Meal rolled away.
The Harvest Festival was the culmination of our Bees, Butterflies & Worms neighborhood-led initiative which began in spring to educate children and adults about eco-gardening, habitat creation, urban wildlife and sustainable stewardship, with funding provided in part by Citizens Committee for New York City.
Tremendous thanks to all of the volunteers, activity sponsors, musicians and contributors who helped make this year’s festival a tremendous success!

A Rooftop Reception To Benefit Elizabeth Street Garden
The Nolitan Yew York
Sept. 23, 2014
Friends of Elizabeth Street Garden thank neighbor The Nolitan New York for their gracious hospitality during and support for our first fundraising benefit. We could not have asked for a more perfect evening. More than 100 supporters enjoyed the first night of fall on The Nolitan’s rooftop lounge. The benefit was tremendously successful, as the Garden’s Friends group exceeded their fundraising goal of $10,000 by nearly 50 percent! Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Garden Clothesline
May 3 – 31, 2014
in celebration of Lower East Side History Month
Throughout May, the Garden is participating in LES History Month — a celebration of the rich and diverse history of the Lower East Side. Conceived by LES-based arts and community groups, LES History Month aims to connect our present to our past, exploring how our history can inform and inspire our future.
The Garden will join other LES organizations, in collaboration with the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space, and exhibit a Garden Clothesline illustrating the history of the site as a social and civic center for our community. The Clothesline will hang through the month of May.
LES History Month opens with Chalk/LES, a weekend-long participatory project to bring LES history, art and stories onto the streets of the neighborhood. On Saturday, May 3, the Garden will serve our community as a public chalking site to encourage passersby to participate with their own stories and images of the LES. Chalk provided!
For additional information about Lower East Side History Month and an event calendar, visit leshistorymonth.org.
